Dolley Madison was the wife of the fourth President of the United States, James Madison. Dolley is credited for saving the iconic life-size portrait painted by Gilbert Stuart of George Washington from being burnt when the British set fire to Washington, D.C., in 1814.

Dolley is buried in a family cemetery located on the grounds of Montpelier, the home of James and Dolley Madison.
